GOAL
Create an app that helps people become more mindful of their everyday lives and see things from a new perspective.
CHALLENGE
Stand out in a crowded market of mindfulness and wellbeing apps while creating a distinctive and engaging experience.

Getting to know the user

Research & audits.

We started by interviewing our target audience: people aged 25 to 40 with stressful jobs who wanted to incorporate mindfulness into their daily lives.

We also conducted a competitive audit to understand the existing market and identify both strengths and weaknesses across similar products.

We found that many competing apps had room for improvement in their visual design, while others relied heavily on advertising, creating a distracting experience.

Development journey

The design process.

We mapped the information architecture and organised the content to create a simple experience that could be accessed easily at any time.

We started sketching the wireframes on paper before translating our ideas into digital wireframes.

We then created a low-fidelity prototype and conducted an unmoderated usability study to see how users interacted with the experience.

The testing revealed something we hadn’t expected: participants found the experience somewhat boring.

To make the interactions feel more engaging, we introduced subtle transition animations to give the experience more rhythm and feedback.

After testing the changes and confirming that participants could complete the assigned tasks successfully, we moved on to the UI design and developed the visual language of the product.

And, as you can probably guess, we tested the high-fidelity prototype again.

Online presence

Responsive web design.

With the app tested and ready, we needed to create an online presence where users could discover MIMEMO and access it through the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
The website also became an opportunity to communicate the benefits of the product, showcase user reviews, and highlight information that could build trust and encourage downloads.
Because the website needed to work across different devices and screen sizes, we designed it as a responsive experience.
We adapted the layout and positioning of elements across breakpoints to maintain usability while keeping the visual connection with the app.

Outcome.

What I learned

One of the challenges during the app design process was choosing the right background colour. We tested different options and verified that the final choice provided sufficient contrast while meeting accessibility requirements.

For the product website, one of the biggest challenges was maintaining a consistent visual identity across different devices while keeping a strong connection to the app itself.

Next steps

The next step would be to introduce a new filtering feature and allow users to customise the background colour according to their preferences and context.

Once these improvements are implemented, we would test the experience again to validate the changes and continue iterating based on user feedback.
